January, 2016 -- On January 11th the Spokane City Council voted 6-1 to pass a Sick and Safe Leave Policy, on the 22nd Mayor Condon vetoed it, and three days after that the city council overrode the mayor's veto. Over 180 people turned out in support of Sick and Safe Leave on the night of the initial vote with over 30 prepared testimonies from many different perspectives. We, the Spokane Alliance and our allies, were able to pass a strong policy for Spokane and succeeded in getting a stronger policy than most jurisdictions across the country.
November, 2015 -- Congratulations! With a majority of the ballots counted, Best Starts for Kids was approved with 56% of the vote! By approving the levy, King County voters are supporting increased resources to ensure kids reach their full potential in life. The hard work and dedication of Sound Alliance members who have spent the last months training, briefing, talking to their neighbors - over 3700 people briefed in total! - and continuously showing up for Best Starts for Kids has paid off with a great win.

October, 2015 -- In our training we teach that “power” is the ability to act. It’s the ability to get things done. There are two major ways to get big things done - with a lot of people or a lot of money - and in the Sound Alliance, our power is people power. One outstanding example of this theory in action comes from the Martin Luther King County Labor Council and local Building Trades unions who are member institutions of the Sound Alliance.
October, 2015 -- Sound Alliance leaders held two separate geographically-based assemblies last week to promote Best Starts for Kids, gain public recognition with decision makers, and start dreaming about where this campaign could lead the Alliance after the election.
October, 2015 -- MACG turned out more than 140 people to City Hall to demand more funding for Affordable Housing to address the housing crisis in Portland by “Taking TIF to 50%” (#TakeTIFto50).
September, 2015 - Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good is excited to announce our newest member, OHSU Department of Family Medicine. OHSU Family Medicine will play a key role in MACG and IAF Northwest's Health Equity Organizing initiative.
A Jail Diversion Facility in Spokane? - Alliance leaders explore solutions to Mental Health & Public Safety
October, 2015 -- While much focus this last spring and summer has been on the Spokane Alliance’s Sick and Safe Leave work, another team has been diligently making progress: the Mental Health & Public Safety Team. The team pulled together 18 months ago, specifically in response to the Spokane Alliance community’s concerns about hearing increased reports of the mentally ill being shot by police and seeing a rise in mentally ill participants in our churches’ emergency services.
October, 2015 -- The affordable housing CRISIS is changing the heart of Portland, and MACG has been fighting back this summer with a campaign to bring tens of millions of dollars to affordable housing projects in Portland. We've already made a lot of progress, but need your presence at a press conference at city hall on October 13!
