URGENT: Tell your legislators to avoid a government shutdown by passing a budget that funds great schools.
June, 2017 -- On July 1st, our state government could shutdown. A second special session began May 23rd and lawmakers have until June 30th to pass a budget. If budget negotiations break down again, government agencies, schools, parks, libraries and other important public services will close. It doesn’t have to be this way if we make our voices heard. Now is the time to call your legislators and demand they pass a budget that closes wasteful tax breaks, fully funds great schools and teachers, and maintains public investments in essential services that support children and families.
May 2017 -- Members of Sound Alliance institutions gathered together on April 26 for the Delegates & Action Assembly - an energetic night moving both internal and external agendas forward. Highlights included touching stories from the immigrant rights and All in for Washington campaigns, and the introduction of new organizers.
May 2017 -- Welcome to Sound Alliance's new Organizer, Dorothy Gibson! Here is more about her:
April, 2017 - What is important to your family and community right now? What pressures are affecting your life and the lives of people around you? The Spokane Alliance is at the point in our organizing cycle where it is time to listen. We want to hear what is important to our members so we can decide what is most urgent to act on together. We will be kicking off our listening season with a training on 4/18, 5:30 – 7:30 PM, at Liberty Park United Methodist Church.
April, 2017 -- Good news - the House Democrats' budget was just released and includes many of the proposals that our All In For Washington campaign supports! To support the steps the House Democrats' budget will take towards cleaning up our tax code and creating thriving communities, we now need letters to the editor and phone calls/emails to legislators. This is where YOU come in!
March 2017 -- The last couple of weeks have been busy for Sound Alliance members as they participated in five town hall events, asking questions on how our state legislators plan to flip our upside-down tax code and ensure our communities can thrive by fully funding public education without cutting critical health and social services. The good news is that Representatives in the House seem to be listening.
March 2017 -- 38 Spokane Alliance leaders from 15 institutions gathered on Feb 24 & 25 to discuss the future of the Alliance, its role in the current post-election political landscape, and reflect on individual leadership journeys. Here are some highlights of the rich discussions by Mary Lou Johnson & Karen Dorn Steele, Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane.
The Spokane Alliance is in search of a part-time Communications Manager who is excited by the work of the Spokane Alliance, who wants to help tell our story and raise our profile so we can be more effective in advancing our goals. This is a good job for someone interested in business, public relations, non-profit management, communications and, social justice/organizing.
March, 2017 -- Beginning this Saturday, March 11, legislators are coming home from Olympia for one reason: to hear from you at town halls across the state. With tough budget negotiations around the corner, these town halls are a vital opportunity to let our senators and representatives know that we can create great schools and protect our thriving communities here in Washington, but only if we clean up our upside-down tax code.
February 2017 -- Over 75 MACG members added their voices to the crowd at City Hall on Feb 2, 2017, successfully supporting a critical emergency Tenant Relocation Assistance ordinance which passed 5-0. It was a victory for stable communities and families in the face of the Portland housing crisis.
