October, 2017 -- The Sound Alliance Strategy Team just voted to endorse King County Proposition 1, a Veterans, Seniors & Human Services Levy!. With Prop 1, veterans, seniors, survivors of domestic violence and more can get the help they need to get back on their feet with access to a range of services including healthcare, housing, and job training and placement.
September 2017. Thank you to all MACG members and guests that attended our housing forums on September 10th and 11th! Our work to provide the City of Portland with our community's input is not finished, however! If you have not done so already, (whether you attended a forum or not) please take their survey as soon as possible.
August 2017 -- On August 12th, in Charlottesville, Virginia, white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and anti-Semites organized a hate-filled show of force against the African American community, communities of color, religious minorities, immigrants, and their allies. They killed one and injured many. The Sound Alliance unequivocally condemns these hate groups and their actions. In a 21st century democratic society, there is no place for such racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant bigotry.
August 2017 -- The Federal Way Education Association is the newest Sound Alliance member institution. Welcome!
August 2017 -- Governor Jay Inslee signed into law a two-year budget shortly before midnight on the evening of June 30. During the extra long session, you made a huge difference.
July 2017 -- At the final hour, Washington state legislators avoided a shutdown but settled short of what will be needed to sustain our schools and communities in the long run, and most likely makes the tax code more inequitable. More work is needed to make world-class schools and thriving communities possible.
July 2017 -- Congratulations are in order for the Spokane Alliance's Public Safety & Mental Health Research Action Team! After three years of the team's work researching and promoting the idea with partner organizations, key leaders, and government agencies, the Spokane Regional Law and Justice Council voted to approve a plan to build a Mental Health Crisis Stabilization Facility in 2018. The facility will also be a win for Spokanites who suffer from mental illness.
June 2017 -- There were over 400 people at 5 different events at yesterday's statewide Day of Action to Prevent a State Government Shutdown. It was covered widely by the press, calling attention to the fact that if budget negotiations break down, government agencies, schools, parks, libraries and other important public services will close on July 1!
June 2017 -- The Spokane Alliance had a successful Discernment Assembly on June 12th, with just under 60 people in attendance from a large number of our member organizations. Over the past three months, Spokane Alliance leaders had about 475 intentional conversations (mostly house meetings and individual meetings) within our membership.
Join Us Thursday: Day of Action to Prevent a State Government Shutdown, Fund Education and Protect Families and Seniors
June 2017 -- The clock is ticking on the first-ever government shutdown in Washington state history. If our state legislature doesn’t pass a budget by June 30, parks would close for the Fourth of July, the parents of 52,000 children would lose child care support, and food banks that support thousands of hungry families would lose state food and funding.
