Structure

MACG's Leadership Structure.

MACG's Member Institutions have created an all-volunteer leadership structure that can be divided into the following units: Core Teams, County Clusters, the Metro Organizing Team, and the Executive Team.

On top of this, leaders create Research Action Teams to specifically tackle issues affecting the Alliance's broad base.

Core Teams

Each MACG Member Institution has a Core Team consisting of active leaders who are responsible for organizing themselves and others in their institution.   Members of Core Teams utilize the organizing and leadership principles learned in MACG's Leadership Institutes for Public Life to discover issues affecting members of their institution and take action on issues internal to their institution as well as MACG's Current Campaigns and work groups.

Schedule and Leadership: Core Teams meet on a regular basis as suited to their institution's needs.  There are usually one or two people who act as the lead contact for the Core Team, responsible for disseminating information to and from MACG and other Core Teams, as well as other responsibilities as dictated by their Core Team's needs.

County Clusters

MACG's Core Teams are organized into Clusters by the County which most closely represents them (Multnomah, Clackamas, or Washington), usually the physical County in which their institution is located.  Delegates from each Core Team within a County Cluster meet to discern common pressures across Core Teams, celebrate new leaders, and energize around MACG actions such as those from Current Campaigns or work groups.

Schedule and Leadership: County Clusters meet quarterly or as needed.  County Clusters have 2 - 4 Co-Chairs responsible for recruiting leaders to set agendas, and ensuring all Core Teams are represented at meetings.

Metro Organizing Team

Delegates from all active Core Teams in all County Clusters in MACG make up the Metro Organizing Team which meets to hear effective strategies from each County Cluster, celebrate new leaders, discern common pressures across geography, and elect leaders to the Executive Team annually.

Schedule and Leadership: The Metro Organizing Team meets quarterly.  There are no permanent leadership positions, but MACG leaders help set agendas and recruit representatives to attend.

Executive Team

The Executive Team is responsible for building MACG into a vibrant, action-oriented organization that has an impact not only in each county but also metropolitan and state-wide.

The Executive Team works closely with an Administrative Board that follows MACG's financials, supervises the staff Lead Organizer, and ensures the organization is in compliance with its bylaws and all government resolutions.

Schedule and Leadership: The Executive Team meets nine times per year.  The Metro Organizing Team meets every year to elect the Executive Team.  There are 12 positions on the Executive Team,  with certain slots specifically reserved to include representatives from different facets of MACG's structure, such as County Clusters and Action Teams.  There are currently 3 positions on the Administrative Board.

Research Action Teams

Research Action Teams are made up of leaders from across all of MACG's Member Institutions, and are organized around a certain issue that affects many people across MACG's broad base.  The Team's job is to research and take specific actions to help alleviate or mitigate issues, and to involve other leaders in MACG in this research and action.  Research Action Teams have to be officially approved via vote by the Metro Organizing Team. For current examples of Research Action Team work, please see Current Campaigns.

Schedule and Leadership: Research Action Teams meet as needed, usually once or twice a month.  There are usually 2-3 Co-Chairs of each Team who help set agendas, run meetings, and act as leaders of the Team.
