January 2012

On December 1, 2011, MACG’s governing board – the Metro Organizing Team – met to discuss MACG’s direction for 2012.

The Metro Organizing Team is made of up to 3 delegates from each of MACG’s 19 institutions, ensuring that our governance is accountable to our members.

The Team decided to authorize four new action teams to add to the three already in place:

•   Economic Justice Action Team –  building on member institution the Leaven project’s organizing efforts - money moves and shared secure lending
•   Education Organizing Action Team
•    Food Issues Action Team – with a focus on East Portland / East Multnomah County food deserts
•    Prison Community Action Team

While adding these teams is exciting, the Team understands that MACG resources, especially staff time, are limited.

Leaders agreed on the importance of pacing our actions on these new teams in order to ensure quality organizing practices.

To get involved with any of these new teams, please contact MACG Lead Organizer Mary Nemmers.
