Sustainable Jobs Team Pushes for Equity
January, 2012
Leaders on the Sustainable Jobs Action Team have been working on various projects with the common theme of advocating for equity for both consumers and workers in public sustainability initiatives.
Leaders have:
- Continued to hold a position on the Clean Energy Works Oregon High Road Agreement Committee, most recently advocating for strengthening health care requirements and reforming diversity hiring goals in that program.
- Been accepted to a place on the Emerald Cities steering committee where MACG will advocate for equity for underserved communities and strong workforce goals.
- Been in conversation about partnering with Oregonians for Renewable Energy Policy (OREP) on their policy campaign about Feed-in Tariffs (FIT). This policy makes renewable energy affordable at the homeowner level by requiring utilities to buy excess energy created at fixed prices. It has been responsible for much of Germany’s success in getting renewable energy started in their country and has yet to be tried in the US.
- Agreed to host and facilitate a listening session for weatherization employees of the contractor members of our ally the High Road Contractors and Community Alliance.
