Medication Labeling Campaign Approved at MACG Delegate Assembly

November 2018 -- MACG’s Delegate Assembly drew 50 people to an invigorating evening of action and learning on October 25. OHSU Health Equity Circle students from the OHSU School of Nursing made an exciting progress report. Students and faculty have been working for months on a bill to address the health impact on non-English speaking immigrant communities caused by English-only labeling on medications.

Listening Leads to Five Research Action Teams

Listening Leads to Five Research Action Teams

Last winter and spring, MACG held a formal listening campaign, asking our member institutions to find out what problems were concerning our community and where they might be willing to work. There was strong turnout: 20 of the 25 MACG member institutions were represented and over 100 MACG leaders attended. From that process, leaders settled on five research action teams focused on the top issue areas. Here is what each team has been up to:

For years, his comment on how organizing turned his cynicism into optimistic and effective upstream action, graced MACG's brochures:

Lew Frederick agreed to introduce the bill after hearing stories PHOENIX Rising Transition members told about post-prison financial burdens at the 2015 MACG listening campaign.

A New Year's Challenge

A New Year's Challenge

December, 2016 -- Across the political spectrum, widespread anxiety about people’s economic futures - combined with hopelessness and frustration with government's ability to improve the situation – laid the foundation for populist surges that challenged the establishments in both major parties in the recent US presidential election. At its worst, the campaign pitted Americans against each other, exposed race and gender prejudices, and further eroded people’s confidence in government. In this context, the well refined relational organizing practices of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) and its affiliates across the US and beyond are needed now more than ever.
