MACG Welcomes OHSU Department of Family Medicine to our Alliance!
Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good is excited to announce our newest member, OHSU Department of Family Medicine.
OHSU Family Medicine will play a key role in MACG and IAF Northwest's Health Equity Organizing initiative. Medical residents from OHSU will receive IAF Regional training content over 10 training sessions throughout the year to learn how to apply IAF’s organizing principles to confront the “social determinants of health”.
Physicians usually work at the “symptomatic level”, addressing health problems as they occur. Organizing with MACG will amplify their effect by allowing doctors to confront the root causes of their patients’ health issues such as inadequate or unhealthy housing.
The first training session began last Tuesday, September 22.
Dr. Holly Milne Hofkamp, Assistant Residency Director of OHSU Family Medicine Residency, noted the benefits that MACG membership brings to their students and patients:
“In addition to gaining invaluable experience for our residents in community organizing, we are hoping that our involvement will help us understand the health needs of our patients and our community. We are looking forward to working side by side with community partners and engaging our patients to address social determinants of health that are nearly impossible to address in the office.”
MACG warmly welcomes OHSU Department of Family Medicine!
