Time to Act! Affordable Housing Action on October 13

October, 2015 -- The affordable housing CRISIS is changing the heart of Portland, and MACG has been fighting back this summer with a campaign to bring tens of millions of dollars to affordable housing projects in Portland. We've already made a lot of progress, but need your presence at a press conference at city hall on October 13!

October, 2015

The affordable housing CRISIS is changing the heart of Portland. Rents are going up, forcing people out of their homes and neighborhoods.

Housing was the number one concern for MACG members during our listening season last spring.

This summer, the MACG Affordable Housing Action Team focused in on an immediate concrete, specific and winnable campaign: bring tens of millions of more dollars to affordable housing development - as many as 830 new units! -  by strengthening Portland’s Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Set-aside from 30 to 50%. In short, #TakeTIFto50!

We’ve already made a lot of progress, bringing first 13, then 35, then 100 MACG leaders to public hearings on TIF.

Check out our Facebook page to see a video of what 100 people look like walking into a public meeting at the same time!

For our efforts MACG got this write up in the Portland Mercury, among other press.

We are getting close to the vote on TIF and its fate is in the hands of the Portland City Council.

To push City Commissioners to do the right thing, MACG is holding a press conference followed by an observation of the City Council work session on TIF.

This is the time to turnout – like a traditional MACG assembly, we want to pack the house at this press conference and hearing!

Show the City Council that this is an important issue to you and come out on October 13!
