Health agency keeps commitment to Spokane Alliance, publishes report showing the importance of Earned Sick and Safe Leave

August, 2015 -- On June 24, 2014, the Spokane Regional Health District – Spokane City and County’s health department – committed in front of 250 Spokane Alliance members at Westminster UCC to develop a study on how a Sick, Safe & Family Leave Policy will impact Spokane. The District kept its commitment to the Spokane Alliance and has just published its report, entitled, “Paid Sick Leave in Spokane”. The report provides solid local data, including survey responses from over 3500 people in the district.

Kellie Fitzgerald, grocery worker and member of UFCW Local 1439, speaks of the distraction from productivity when a worker is sick or worried about a sick child at home. "My job requires focusing on good customer service, ringing orders efficiently and accurately, I take pride in what I do. However if I'm worrying about my child's fever, thinking, "is he getting enough fluids?" – I’m unable to give my job my full attention."

May, 2015 -- The results are in! Over half of MACG's member institutions held 37 listening events and listened to over 600 people during the course of the MACG-wide 2015 listening campaign!
