Action Teams and Campaigns
Members of the Sound Alliance identify problems, concerns and hopes in our communities. Through our "Action Teams" we research, build relationships and act on these problems, concerns and hopes. The results of these activities usually develop into our campaigns.
We usually have more than one active campaign at any given time. The more we win, the stronger we get.
The issues we work on can be large or small, but must meet the following criteria:
- They must make a difference in people's lives.
- They must be specific, measurable and winnable.
- They must help build our organization and move us forward.
Current Action Teams and Campaigns
A regional initiative of IAF Washington - uniting the Spokane and Sound Alliances - the Budget and Policy Center, and other statewide allies, All In For Washington is a statewide effort to clean up the tax code so that all communities in Washington thrive. We know we can do great things when we all chip in our resources together to achieve the amazing things we could never accomplish alone.
Sound Alliance leaders are researching actions to take to protect our immigrant community members from increased aggressive action by Immigration and Customs agents in 2017. Current research is around finding ways to support undocumented students and their families.
Physical Education (PE) Campaign
The American Heart Association recommends children receive 150 minutes per week of physical education in elementary school - benefiting health, academics, and student behavior. Some Washington schools, especially in communities highly impacted by health, income, and race-based disparities, have been failing to provide even the low current state standard of 100 minutes of PE per week. This campaign is focusing on getting schools in the state's largest district - Seattle - to meet the state PE standard across the board, starting with those schools most impacted by health disparities.
