Keep up the Pressure: Succesful Day of Action, Now Call Your Legislator
There were over 400 people at 5 different events at yesterday's statewide Day of Action to Prevent a State Government Shutdown.
It was covered widely by the press, calling attention to the fact that if budget negotiations break down, government agencies, schools, parks, libraries and other important public services will close on July 1!
The Sound Alliance was most represented at the Federal Way event which drew 80 people, especially showcasing our broad-base of unions and churches.
Sound Alliance leader Shannon McCann's speech (Federal Way Education Association) was a highlight and you can see it in this news clip from KIRO 7:
Following this success, and given the June 30 budget deadline, now is a great time to keep up the pressure and call your legislators demanding they pass a budget that closes wasteful tax breaks, fully funds great schools and teachers, and maintains public investments in essential services that support children and families.
Tell your legislators to close wasteful tax breaks and clean up Washington’s upside-down tax code so we can provide every student a world-class education.
Call the Legislative Hotline at: (844) 489-4843
Open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday (translators are available)
Leave your name and address. They will tell you who your legislators are.
Tell them you want to send a message to all three of your legislators.
Sample Message (make it your own, but keep it short.)
My name is ______ and I live in ______________.
I want to see our state lead the nation in great schools. It’s time to clean up the tax code to make sure we build a strong foundation for Washington. The House Democrat’s budget proposal, HB 2186, is a good step in the right direction. Please support closing the wasteful tax breaks to pay for great schools for all Washingtonians.
