Alliance Sees Seattle Progress in Green-Jobs Program

Sound Alliance leaders from Seattle-based member institutions meet with the Mayor's Office to discuss the Community Power Works program.

Alliance Relationship with Seattle Mayor's Office Off to Good Start

Sound Alliance leaders from Seattle-based member institutions met in September with the Deputy Mayor, the Labor and Community Liaison, and two representatives from the Office of Environment and Sustainability.

Alliance leaders recognized the city and Mayor for their progress in developing a strategy to create jobs in the area of energy efficiency through the Community Power Works program, shared the area lessons they'd learned through SustainableWorks and more generally introduced them to the Alliance's overall mission and issue priorities.

After focusing primarily on statewide and regional issues, the Alliance is shifting focus to include more issues that can be addressed at the local level, such as this Seattle program. "Seattle’s Jobs Plan creates real opportunities for us to partner and negotiate with the city to create meaningful jobs for residents and to address issues such as education at the same time,” said Tom Buchanan of Temple Beth Am, a Sound Alliance member institution.  "We're off to a good start."
