The Spokane Alliance's successful campaign for sick and safe leave for Spokane workers got major recognition at the Spokane County Democrats' Foley Legacy Dinner on April 23.
The Democrats gave the Spokane Alliance their "Blue Star Award", which recognizes the group that during the last year exhibited the highest level of action and achievement on a campaign.
In her keynote address to the Democrats at the event, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, congratulated the Spokane Alliance, saying its local success helps her with similar goals at the national level.
Starting next January, workers in companies with under 10 employees will be able to earn three days of sick leave annually; bigger companies must provide five days.
