Spokane Alliance Celebrates State Legislators Working Together to Pass the Jobs Bill that is Critical to Spokane’s Future

Spokane leaders celebrate that the State Legislature passed the Jobs Bill to finish the WSU medical school, fund weatherization projects, and create jobs.

Spokane (April 11, 2012) – The Spokane Alliance thanks the state legislature for passing the Jobs Bill. Now thousands of jobs will be created locally that can fund Spokane’s future.  The hole where the WSU Riverpoint Biomedical and Health Science Center will be built is symbolic of the shovel ready projects and jobs statewide that can now be filled.

Pastor Andrea “Andy” CastroLang, President of the Spokane Alliance called legislators to take action last month stated, “We are glad to see that the legislature has united behind this bill since it supports economic recovery for our state and our city.  There is an air of hope blowing through our city and this is a very good thing.”

The Spokane Alliance has led a campaign in support of the Jobs Bill to create 18,000 jobs statewide.  In Spokane, the bill will bring the necessary $38.9 million to complete the Riverpoint Biomedical and Health Science Center and provide to $15 million for CEEP (Community Energy Efficiency Programs) which helps supports the SustainableWorks program created by the Spokane Alliance.

Unemployment is high. We need jobs, and we need them now.  We know that every dollar spent on building projects in Washington will generate $1.97 in economic activity. Projects like the medical school are ready to be built.  Melissa Carpenter, Vice President of the Spokane Alliance said, “Over the past few months, I have heard story after story about the struggles facing people in Spokane.  The Jobs Bill offers an opportunity to move forward in difficult economic times by investing in ourselves, our community and our future as jobs are created, the medical school can now be completed and funding for weatherization projects like SustainableWorks will be provided.  We can finally get to work.”

The Spokane Alliance thanks legislators for their bipartisan work to pass the Jobs Bill. Now we can put people to work!
